Ecco un altro pendente in alluminio, lontanamente ispirato al mondo dei pesci.
La finitura è stata lasciata grezza, con la sola lucidatura degli incavi frontali.

Ciondolo Soly - Soly's pendant
Questo post è dedicato al ciondolo in alluminio che ho fatto per il compleanno di un'amica.
Stranamente mi sono anche ricordato di fare le foto man mano che procedevo nel lavoro.
Essendo la prima volta che creavo una cosa del genere, ho voluto fare prima un prototipo per vedere come il materiale reagisse al contatto prolungato con pelle e sudore, nonchè verificare se desse luogo a reazioni allergiche di sorta.
Ecco i primi schizzi con lo sbozzo del prototipo.

Curiously I remebered to take pics of the job while it progressed.
Being the first time I was trying to make such a thing, I've done a prototype to see how it reacted in contact with sweat and skin, as well to see if it caused irrirations.

Si taglia l'interno dei fori mediante un cacciavite e un piccolo martello.

Dopo un lungo lavoro di lima la scritta inizia ad essere leggibile.

Ecco il prototipo finito, pronto per essere portato.
Essendo solo una prova la finitura è rimasta satinata.

Ecco il ciondolo definitivo, con la "Y" al posto della "I", più corretto essendo un diminutivo.
Come si nota è assai più curato e lucidato quasi a specchio (farlo totalmente a specchio era sconsigliabile perchè l'alluminio si riga facilmente).
La "S" è arricchita mediante l'applicazione di uno zircone fissato con un incastro e della colla bicomponente.
I bordi delle lettere questa volta sono arrotondati con un paziente lavoro di carta vetrata.
La sola lucidatura ha richiesto due giorni di lavoro.

As you can see, it's much more refined - it is almost mirror polished (it is not really mirror polished because aluminum can scratch easily).
The "S" is adorned with a zircon, set in place with epoxy glue.
The letters are rounded off with sandpaper.
The polishing required two days of work.

Portabit per Leatherman Wave
Spesso ho con me una pinza multiuso Leatherman Wave, che tante volte si è rivelata utilissima.
Avendola sotto gli occhi tutti i giorni non potevo non pensare a qualche miglioramento.
Questo è un portabit universale che,fissandosi al posto dei bit dedicati, permette di usare anche punte non disponibili nel bitkit Leatherman.E' stato realizzato molando un comunissimo portabit esagonale.

Coltello da bistecca - Steak knife
Da convinto carnivoro quale sono, non potevo non avere un coltello da bistecca. Questo è fatto con una lama di recupero in acciaio 420, molata fino alla forma scelta. L'impugnatura è in mogano.

Rosa - Rose
Alcuni anni fa feci questa rosa di legno.
Una rosa perchè simbolo dell'amore, di legno perchè così non avrebbe potuto appassire.
In realtà fui troppo ottimista, ma questa è un'altra storia..
La rosa è modellata partendo da un ramo di betulla. La scatola in mogano, rovere e bambù.

Shirasaya
Se avete guardato i vari post precedenti avrete notato che ho una certa predilezione per il Giappone (soprattutto prima della riforma Meiji).
Fra i vari oggetti orientaleggianti tempo fa realizzai questo tanto shirasaya.
La lama è una Brusletto ad alto tenore di carbonio, riprofilata a mola e con i fianchi lasciati in "brute de forge" . L' habaki è in rame forgiato a freddo, senza saldature, il corpo principale in abete, il mekugi in bambù e le battute tra impugnatura e fodero in mogano.

The habaki is in cold-worked copper, thus made without soldering, the main handle body in fir, the mekugi is made of bamboo and the decorations of sheat and handle are made of mahogany.

Cuori - Hearts
Questi due piccoli cuori intrecciati, apparentemente molto semplici, sono stati realizzati partendo da un unico blocco di legno.
Non è che mi piaccia complicarmi la vita, ma il fatto di non romperli per unirli aveva un valore simbolico.

Portachiavi - Keyring
Ecco un piccolo portachiavi con iniziale, regalato ad una persona che mi ha fatto un grosso piacere.
E' una "C" avvolta da un nastro. Non è venuta nitido come avrei voluto, ma è stato comunque apprezzato. Il legno è rovere africano selezionato.

It's a "C" enveloper by a tape. It didn't get as sharp as I imagined, but it was appreciated as well. The wood used in here is selected african oak.

Ormai parecchio tempo fa, un gruppo di frequentatori del forum della coltelleria Collini ed io, sviluppammo uno utility pesante. Il progetto avrebbe dovuto andare in produzione ma una serie di circostanze sfortunate fecero andare le cose diversamente.
Del Lares (questo il nome provvisorio dato al coltello) rimangono ora il prototipo in legno che sviluppai all' epoca e i 6 esemplari eseguiti artigianalmente da Fabio Dalla Costa, uno in RWL e cinque in N690co.
